How to place a banner outside of the cart ?

Can someone please tell me how to add a banner on the left of right site of the screen, outside the cart.

Something like this :

There is a simpleBanner plugin available, but you would also need to modify templates/default/head.tpl (possibly footer.tpl?) to get the banner to appear to the right or left of the main table used to display the shop.

i've used the plugin, but I can't get it to display outsite of the cart.
Any tips on there I have to insert the code in head.tpl or footer.tpl. ?

In head.tpl theres a line

<td></td>

and a corresponding one in footer.tpl

You could start by putting the banner variable in one or other of these cells and see what happens!
(You'll probably have to play around to get it to balance up properly.)
