How can I add info below the categories

How can I add extra information like news or links below the categories.

I've tried adding links but they always appear with an arrow beside it like it was a category.

its because of styles for that block, look into file "templates/default.css" on block where are defined styles for id "#menu" and there try to add some your styles...
